Every week for some months Miss Agnes Morris left her house in Crail, Fife, and set off down the street with a tin of metal polish and a duster. You see, a neighbor of Miss Morris' was in the hospital, and she wondered if there was something she could do to help. Then she thought--even though the house is closed, at least she could keep the brass doorknob and knocker polished and bright. I don't think she could have hit on a happier idea. For surely nothing proclaims a woman's pride in her home so splendidly as shining brasses. In a way, they're a measure of the woman whose home it is--for you can be sure that if the brasses on the door are kept bright you won't be able to find much fault with the rest of the house. ~The Friendship Book Feb.5, 1972
