Ugly Ducklings

A merry month, the month of May,
With the air alive and humming,
As the whistling birds on their tree-top perch
Herald the summer's coming.
So let's take a leaf from the song-birds' book
And shrug away the winter and sorrow,
No matter how dark the days have been
It's going to be brighter tomorrow.
~Francis Gay from The Friendship Book, 1972
